UTrendCo helps you choose a portable power station or home battery by doing the research and the math for you. This page explains exactly where our information comes from, what we do not do, how we make money, and how we fix mistakes.

The short version

  • Our reviews and comparisons are research-based. They are built from manufacturer specifications, owner reports and retailer data.
  • We do not lab-test or bench-test power stations unless an article clearly says so. Today, none of our articles claim hands-on testing.
  • Runtime estimates are calculations from published specs, using one formula that we show on every page.
  • Some links may earn us a commission. That never changes the specs we print or the products we recommend.
  • If we get something wrong, tell us. We correct verified errors and update the page date.

1. Manufacturer specifications come first

Every review starts from the manufacturer's official product page, data sheet or user manual for the US model. We record capacity (watt-hours), continuous and surge output (watts), battery chemistry and rated cycle life, AC, solar and car charging inputs and times, weight, expansion options, operating temperatures and warranty terms. When an article has a Sources section, it links to those pages so you can check them yourself.

Manufacturer figures are claims made under the manufacturer's own test conditions. We label them that way. Examples include "EcoFlow rates it at…" and "Jackery lists…". Noise figures, recharge times in ideal sun and "lab-tested" claims belong to the brand, not to us.

2. The runtime formula we use

Batteries lose energy converting DC to the AC your appliances use, so we never divide the full rated capacity by the load. Our standard estimate is:

Runtime (hours) = Capacity (Wh) × 0.85 ÷ Device watts

The 0.85 factor represents typical inverter and conversion losses. For example, a 1,024Wh station has about 870Wh usable, which runs a 40W CPAP for roughly 22 hours. Device wattages in our tables are typical figures for that kind of appliance, not measurements of your appliance. Appliances that cycle (fridges, freezers, sump pumps) are shown with an average draw, and we explain start-up surge separately. Real runtimes vary with temperature, battery age, load and settings. A plug-in watt meter on your own appliance is the best way to refine the numbers.

3. Owner reports and published reviews

To find out how products behave in real use, such as fan noise, app reliability, customer service and long-term issues, we read documented owner feedback and published third-party reviews. We summarize patterns, for example "fan noise under heavy load is a common owner complaint". We do not quote individuals we cannot verify, and we never invent quotes, ratings or test results.

4. Retailer data and prices

Prices, bundles and availability come from manufacturer stores and major retailers at the time of writing, and we date them (for example "as of October 2026"). Prices change often, so always check the current price before you buy. When a product or accessory is discontinued, we say so.

5. What we don't do

  • We don't lab-test units, measure noise or time recharges ourselves unless an article explicitly says it did and explains how.
  • We don't accept payment for rankings, and manufacturers don't review our articles before publication.
  • We don't publish fake reviews, invented testimonials or AI-generated reader comments. Reader comments are real submissions that we moderate before publishing.
  • We don't use AI-generated images that pretend to show a real product. Product photos are the manufacturers' own images, credited under the photo. Illustrations of generic scenes are labeled as such.

6. Affiliate disclosure and advertising

UTrendCo is reader-supported. Some outgoing links may be affiliate links, so we may earn a commission if you buy through them, at no extra cost to you. We may also show advertising, such as Google AdSense. Commissions and ads never decide which products we recommend, how we rank them or which specs we print. If a product we link to has a weakness, we say so.

7. Corrections and updates

Specs change, firmware changes and we make mistakes. If you spot an error, please send it through our contact form with a link to the source if you have one. We check the claim against the manufacturer's current documentation. When it's confirmed, we correct the article and update its "Reviewed" date. Significant corrections, such as a wrong capacity or output figure, are fixed promptly, and we periodically review articles to keep prices, availability and specs current.
